“I have one, and it’s great. Easy to use, a little tricky to get private headers working but once you’ve done it once it’s simple. CFW is the way to go, but I kept mine for when I eventually run out of space on my SD card.
It’s great for what it does. If you just want to play games from your own region and not think about protecting your system, perfect. I loved mine, but I was region locked to Japan and wanted more American titles. Then everything changed and my Sky took the backseat, and now it’s in a new home.
For someone who just wants the easiest way to play backups, I’d potentially recommend one. No chance to brick your 3DS, beautiful.
Obviously using CFW & CIAs can allow you to play “backups” for free but a Sky3ds+ can be useful. In some cases its cheaper for someone to get a sky3ds+ and use that as a replacement for homebrew exploit games such as CN or OOT. The flashcart doesn’t require any CFW or anything and can work on stock 3ds’ as it “appears” like a normal 3ds game cart (It works on 11.0 too, Nintendo have not been able to combat it so far). The main downside is messing with private headers for multiplayer games but I’ve seen people that use their Sky3ds(+) solely for single player games and use CIAs on CFW for online games.
So now, my N3DS is on A9LH (so lucky with that!!!) and my O3DS with Sky3DS is now extensively used by my wife 🙂 If you can, go the CFW way. But as the process is quite complicated, maybe Sky3DS is a good choice, if you do not want to mess anything up, as it is super easy to use right out of the box.
I sure like that there isn’t a lengthy installation process like there is for CIAs. I’d rather save the money and deal with the installation, though.
When you think about it children can ruin console while on cfw so sky3ds can be a good option.
